the First night fighter based on the Dornier bomber received the designation Do 17Z-7 and the name Kauz (Sipuha is a bird that heralds disaster with its cry). It differed from the usual Z-3 only in that instead of the front nose glazing, a dome-shaped and opaque nose fairing was installed on it. Behind the fairing in the nose of the aircraft housed three fixed 7.92-mm mg 17 machine gun, one 20-mm mg FF gun (erlikon) and 11-mm armor plate. The crew of the fighter consisted of 3 people: a pilot, a radio operator and a flight engineer. The latter, in addition to the main duties, was to replace the cartridge magazines of the gun, the breech of which protruded into the inner space of the cabin. The aircraft retained the ability to carry bombs. At the rear of the BOM of bootsey could be placed up to 500 kg of bombs. While in front of it there was an additional 896-l fuel tank.
