Additional Information
Douglas SBD Dauntless was the standard bomber of the U.S. Navy in the early years of the Second world war. It was built about 6 000 aircraft in six major versions, all of them were used in the Pacific theater of operations. Among the many battles in which this aircraft was used, are the battle of the coral sea and the battle of midway. Despite the fact that the technique in which the aircraft was used - dive bombing, soon began to be considered obsolete, SBD remained in service. The last large-scale operation in which this aircraft was used was the Battle of the Mariana Islands. Over time, the aircraft were replaced by SB2C Helldiver.
