Additional Information
This world famous classic initial training aircraft has a very rich history. Aircraft U-2 (training second), renamed in 1944 in PO-2 ("Polikarpov second" - after the death of N. N. Polikarpova) made its first flight on January 7, 1928 and lasted about 35 years, having no equal in this respect in the world. The durability of the aircraft indicates its perfection, versatility and successful compliance with the newly emerging requirements. The u-2 was created as an initial training aircraft, but it turned out to be variants of an agricultural aircraft, an ambulance, a limousine and the famous night bomber.
the Aircraft delighted its testers. With a large angle of attack and loss of speed, the aircraft lowered its nose and again picked up speed, with full throttle went up, at low engine speeds lowered its nose and went with a decrease. The aircraft was not included in the corkscrew, and being introduced deliberately with great effort, quickly came out of it at the neutral position of the control knob. All this was so unusual that the new aircraft was immediately provided with General recognition.
During the great Patriotic war, this training aircraft turned into a formidable weapon. Due to the low speed it became possible to use it at low altitudes at night, and the accuracy of the bombing was very high. Ease of management allowed to prepare crews for a short time. Particularly famous was the women's regiment M. Grizodubova, enemies nicknamed the "night witches".
