One of the most famous fighters of the period of world War II "Mustang" was developed in the United States by order of the British air force. The prototype was designed and built in just 117 days and made its first flight on October 26, 1940. In November 1941. "Mustang I" (P-51) began to enter the UK into service RAF, partially replacing the beginning to become obsolete fighter "hurricane". In the original version with the Allison engine, the aircraft showed very modest flight and combat qualities and was used most often as a fighter-bomber. But when in 1942 it installed a powerful rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the fighter turned into one of the best combat aircraft of the war. Using hanging fuel tanks, he could fly to Berlin and back. In their tactical and technical data of the P-51 in air combat was superior to almost any aircraft of the Luftwaffe in a wide range of altitudes and changed in the US air force P-40 "Kittyhawk". - A-36A – attack aircraft and dive bomber created on the basis of P-51A with Alison V-1710-87 engine(F21R) with a power of 1325 HP, six 12.7 mm machine guns, bomb load up to 910 kg, especially widely used DURING the LANDING operation in Sicily,
- scouts F-6, F-6D, F-6K, experimental XP-51F, XP-51G, XP-82.
