Soviet training fighter MiG-15UTI, USSR, 1949
MiG-15UTI appeared in response to the logical requirement of the military - to give the army training option for the development of one of the first jet fighters. Required to train flight and technical personnel of operation of many technical innovations that appeared on the MiG-15 and unknown in the era piston fighters: the jet engine, the pressurized cabin, the armchair, the catapult, the onboard fire extinguishing system of the fire alarm, the blind landing system etc. the Serial MiG-15 No. 104015 with the engine RD-45F was converted into the first prototype training aircraft and different from the serial MiG-15 weapons, a double cabin, dual controls and other changes related to his new appointment. A second cockpit for the instructor established due to the reduction of the first fuselage fuel tank. Both cabins were equipped with a full set of devices and ejection seats. The lantern of the front cabin leaned sideways, and the lantern of the instructor's cabin moved back, when ejecting both parts of the lantern had to be reset. At the same time, the ejection took place in two stages, first the instructor was ejected, and then the trained pilot.   From 23 may to 20 August 1949 was carried out factory tests. The flights were conducted by I. T. Ivashchenko, K. K. Kokkinaki and A. N. Chernoburov. Disadvantages of the MiG-15UTI was broadly the shortcomings of the MiG-15, however, the aircraft had all the advantages of a fighter. The new aircraft satisfied the requirements of the military to the training fighter and was recommended for acceptance into service and for launch into mass production.   The most famous pilot of the MiG-15 was Yuri Gagarin, two years flying on these aircraft in the 769th fighter regiment of the Northern fleet.   On March 27, 1968, the first cosmonaut of the planet Yuri Gagarin died in an aviation accident, performing a training flight on the MiG-15UTI with an instructor pilot, regiment commander, Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Seregin.   What an important role is played for the training of pilots jet training aircraft can be assessed in view of the wave of accidents that swept the Western countries. The United States has embraced a disaster epidemic with the P-80. In addition to the first pilot of "Shooting star" Milo Berham died and the best us ACE in world war II, Richard Bong. And the German air force lost in flight accidents 36 % of its F-84F "Thunderstrike". The most notoriety and the nickname "the Widowmaker" and "flying coffin" subsequently became an American F-104. In the disasters of the "Zvezdafighter" was killed in July 1958 - as the Korean war, Ivan Kincheloe , in December 1967 - the first black astronaut, Robert Lawrence. The worst reputation "Zvezdafighter" acquired in the German air force, where 292 aircraft (30 %) were lost in flight accidents and killed 116 pilots. But in terms of relative accident rate, the first place was occupied by the canadian air force, which lost about 46 % of its f-104 fleet.   Developed by OKB-155 MiG-15UTI was produced from 1950 to 1959 years at the aircraft factory №1 (Kuibyshev), №99 (Ulan-Ude), №135 (Kharkiv), № 153(Novosibirsk), Aero Vodochody (Czechoslovakia), PZL (Poland), Shenyang (China) and operated until the early 80's. The number of produced machines (3433) MiG-15UTI is among the training aircraft honorary second place in the world after the American T-33, ahead of his followers L-29 Dolphin and L-39 Albatross.
