To the development of transport aircraft Ju.52 KB the firm "Junkers" started in 1929, work on the development of the airplane was headed by E. zindel. The main requirements for the new aircraft were its simplicity, low cost of operation and reliability. Ceiling and speed of flight was given secondary importance. The project is a single-engine version of Ju.52 was ready by the end of 1929. The peculiarity of the project was that without special structural alterations the aircraft could be equipped with 3 engines. The first prototype of the aircraft with one engine made in the transport version was ready by the end of September 1930. Ju.52 first took to the air on 13 October 1930. In February 1931, the aircraft was shown to the General public at Berlin's Tempelhof airport.
