Additional Information
Soviet Yak-3 is considered to be one of the best fighters of the Second world war. It was developed in the design Bureau as Yakovlev as a result of further development of the Yak-1M. Yak-3 was produced in two factories, the first production machine was made only on March 1, 1944, seven months after the completion of state tests of the first prototype.
the New Yak provided our pilots with an advantage in speed, rate of climb, vertical and horizontal maneuver. He enjoyed great love at the front and was considered the best fighter. During the battle of July 16, 1944 with the participation of 18 Yak-3 against 24 Me-109G-2 and FW-190A-4 our pilots shot down 15 enemy fighters with one lost and one damaged Yak-3. French pilots regiment "Normandy-Neman" of the proposed fighter, Soviet, British and American, chose the Yak-3 (207228 Modeler 1/72 Soviet Yak-3) and acted on them extremely successfully. Their combat success is really impressive - 273 downed enemy aircraft (only 10 days in October 1944, they shot down 119 German aircraft, mainly FW-190 and Me-109G). Appreciated this plane and the Germans. The German command ordered: “At a meeting with the Yak fighter without oil cooler in a nose and with an inclined mast of the antenna – not to enter fight”.
With the installation of the VK-107A engine, with a capacity of 1700 HP and significantly more powerful weapons (37 mm h-37 gun instead of 20 mm ShVAK and two UB-20 caliber of 20 mm instead of 12.7 mm UBS), a more powerful modification appeared, which received the designation Yak-3U, entered service with the Soviet air force after world war II.
