Additional Information

One of the most famous German aircraft of the period of world war II was undoubtedly the Junkers Ju-87 dive bomber "Piece" (short for "Shturtskampfflugtsoyg"- "dive combat aircraft"). Until now, its characteristic silhouette with the wing "reverse gull" and non-retractable landing gear in fairings-"sandals" is associated with the concept of "aggression". "Pieces" left a sad memory in Spain, Poland, France, England, the Soviet Union.

the Aircraft was designed specifically for dive bombing, which significantly increased the accuracy of the target, as well as reducing the time spent on the combat course. Thus, dramatically reduced the chances of hitting the aircraft anti-aircraft artillery.
Ju-87 (207213 Modeler 1/72 Dive bomber Junkers Ju-87G-1 "Piece") made its first flight in April 1935, received baptism of fire in Spain ("Legion "Condor") and was produced commercially until 1944 (built more than 5700 machines). Until the middle of world war II, the Ju-87 was the most common type of dive bomber.

Because of its relatively low speed, it was used where German aircraft had air supremacy, otherwise the dive squadrons suffered heavy losses from enemy fighters. During the "battle of England" six days after the start of this operation, the Luftwaffe command decided to stop using the Ju-87 (207213 Modeler 1/72 Junkers Dive bomber Ju-87G-1 "Piece") in this direction.

At the first stage of the war against the Soviet Union, the German air force was able to gain dominance in the air, and the "Pieces" could inflict unpunished strikes on our land forces and rear objects. Heavy losses as a result of the actions of German dive bombers and suffered the Soviet fleet. In October 1941, Lieutenant Hans Ulrich Rudel seriously damaged the battleship "Marat". The bow end of the ship was torn off , the second tower of the main caliber, the battleship sat on the ground and did not sink only because of the shallow water on the roadstead.

As the Soviet fighter aircraft strengthened, the actions of the "Pieces" became more limited– and only under strong fighter cover.

From the end of 1941 the Luftwaffe began to receive a new version of "Pieces"- Ju-87D had a more powerful engine and additional booking may 1942, appeared his version of the assault– Ju-87D-3. By the summer offensive of 1943 near Kursk appeared and assault version D-5 (with increased wingspan and wing guns caliber 20 mm).

In order to fight the growing power of the Soviet armored forces, an anti - tank version of the "Stuff"-Ju-87G was created. The aircraft was armed with two flak 18 guns caliber 37 mm, suspended in bulky containers under the wing and fired armor-piercing projectile with a tungsten core. The Ju-87G was not mass-produced, but was converted from the Ju-87D-3 and D-5 attack aircraft and designated, respectively, Ju-87G-1 (207213 Modeler 1/72 Dive bomber Junkers Ju-87G-1 "Piece") and G-2. Anti - "Stuff" turned out to be quite an effective weapon. On account of the already mentioned most famous pilot Ju-87 Hans Rudel by the end of the war there were 519 destroyed tanks. The result of the suspension of heavy guns, the already low rate of "Things" has declined further, and the maneuverability is deteriorated.

By the autumn of 1944, only g-modification attack aircraft were involved in day flights, and D-modification aircraft were transferred to night assault squadrons. At the same time, the serial production of Ju-87 stopped. In the last months of the war the Ju-87 was used only sporadically on the Western front, mainly during the Ardennes battle and in the North of Italy.
