In 1964 on the basis of the MiG-21S began the development of an analog aircraft A-144, aerodynamic wing layout which repeated the shape of the carrier surface of the supersonic passenger liner Tu-144. The aircraft was designed to study the takeoff and landing characteristics of the "tailless".
Development of "Analogue" was carried out in the design office of the Gorky aviation plant No. 21, later renamed the "Falcon".
