Additional Information
In February 1944, serial production of the Fw began.190 A-8, the most massive modification of the aircraft Focke-Wulf Fw.190.
As prototypes for Fw.190 A-8 (as for Fw.190 A-7) served two Fw.190 A-5/U9 (W. Nr 812, BH+CB and W. Nr 816, BH+CF). In the early autumn of 1943, they practiced the installation of two mg 131 machine guns, instead of MG 17. Also in the literature mentioned Fw.190 A-6 W. Nr 530765. This machine is under the designation Fw.190 V51 was used by Fieseler as a test bench for testing weapons, for testing variants of the MK 108 guns in the wing outside the screw rotation zone.
Following the requirements to increase the flight range Fw.190, the designers of firm “Focke-Wulf” has decided to install an additional fuel tank behind the cockpit. Placing the tank inside the fuselage did not reduce the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft. Instead of the fuel tank, the GM-1 nitrous oxide injection tank with a volume of 85 liters could be installed. There were plans for the installation on an aircraft injection systems water-methanol, MW-50 (capacity of 115 or 140 litres). But to achieve its stable operation with the engine BMW 801 D-2 failed. From August-September 1944, all FW aircraft.190 A-8 were to be supplied with an installed auxiliary tank.
