F/A-18 is an all-weather multi-purpose carrier-based combat aircraft jointly developed by the US Navy and the us marine Corps for deployment on Nimitz class aircraft carriers. Test flights of the improved version of F/A-18C began on September 3, 1986. Since 1986, the F/A-18C has been involved in all U.S. combat operations. The objectives of the aircraft are to retain air superiority, reconnaissance, surveillance of airspace and attack ground targets.
