Additional Information
Tornado ECR aircraft were part of the 1st Luftwaffe combat squadron, stationed in PYA-chenets - the first "combat" mission of the German military after 1945. Since August 1995, these aircraft have been involved in operation "Deliberate Force" in the skies of the former Yugoslavia, and in 1999 - in operation "Allied Force" in Kosovo.
After the successful application of Tornado in operation "desert Storm" Command of the Italian air force decided to adopt a plane specifically designed to suppress the enemy air defense system. The Italians opted for the Tornado and soon 20 aircraft variant of IDS has been upgraded, having the opportunity to use UR AGM-88 HARM. At the same time, it was decided to buy a batch of Tornado ECR aircraft.
16 Italian IT-ECR was a modernized IDS, and therefore retained the engines of the Mk 103. In General, they were similar to the German machines, but had a significant part of the Italian production of avionics, including the ELS system of the company "Elettronica" and so on. The first modernized aircraft, the MM7079, took off in July 1992, and in February 1998 entered service with the 155th group of the 50th regiment in Piacenza.
