Hawker Siddeley Harrier surprised the world with his unique ability to take off and land vertically. The concept was first tested in 1960 year, after years of testing and modification of the aircraft was adopted in the RAF in 1974 year. The serial Harrier used a Pegasus 6 or 11 engine with 8000 or 9700 kg of thrust respectively. The Royal Navy naturally became interested in the aircraft, but many political and financial problems postponed the order of the Harrier modification of the Navy until may 1975.
Modification of FRS.1 easily distinguished from the ground version by a modified bow section, elevated pilot seats and a Ferranti Blue Fox radar, in addition, the main armament consists of sea Eagle anti-ship missiles and air-to-air missiles AIM-9L Sidewinder. As an alternative to Sea Eagle, Martel or Harpoon can be installed.
Sea Harrier with a Harrier GR3 RAF were battle-tested in the Falklands war.
