In 1939-1941, the design Bureau of the company Porsche K. G. conducted work on the heavy tank VK 30.01 (P) - the father of the "Tiger Porsche". May 26, 1941 at the meeting Hitler took the decision to increase frontal reservation VK 30.01 (P), 100 mm armament was to consist of 88-mm guns and two machine guns. The increased requirements and inevitable processing of the project led to the creation of a virtually new tank - VK 45.01 (P). The first prototype was hastily assembled by April 20, 1942, but VK 45.01 (P) was constantly out of luck and due to flaws in the power plant serial production was disrupted. The official designation of the tank Panzerkampfwagen VI P (8,8 cm) or just Tiger (P).
