Additional Information
American fighter P-51 "Mustang" was originally developed by the company "North American" commissioned by the UK for the Royal air force, and since 1941 was in their service. Moreover, despite the outstanding flight characteristics, the us air force became interested in the aircraft only when the "Mustangs" already in full force fought on the other side of the Atlantic. Only in February 1943, the P-51 "Mustang" was adopted in the United States.
Meanwhile, the machine really deserved attention — the perfection of its aerodynamic forms, laminar (for the first time in the history of aircraft!) wing, radiator with reduced aerodynamic resistance — all this, even taking into account not so powerful 1100-horsepower engine, allowed to accelerate the aircraft to an unimaginable 702 km/h at an altitude. This at a time when the speed of 600 km/h still seemed quite acceptable to the fighter.
