In June 1984, the Japanese self-defense forces launched a program to upgrade F-4EJ FIGHTERS. The purpose of this program was to extend the life of the aircraft to the 21st century. Upgraded aircraft received the designation F-4EJ Kai.To replace outdated radar AN/APQ-120 aircraft were station AN/APG-66J firm Westinghouse. A new on-Board computer, an indicator on the windshield of the Kaiser company, the system "friend-or-foe" AN/APZ-79 of Hazeltine company, and the inertial navigation system LN-39 of Litton company, produced under license in Japan, were installed. The radiation warning system was also replaced by J/APR-6. The antennas of the system were placed in long fairings on the wing tips. On the fairing of the fuselage placed long antenna VHF / UHF radio, and ventral antenna has been increased in size.The ventral node is modified to use a 2300 liter PTB F-15, allows you to perform the maneuver with large congestion than permitted regular ventral PTB.
