Additional Information
the First series of "Wildcat" had the index F4F-3 - because the biplane ancestor of the new fighter was called F4F-1, and the prototype that participated in the air force competition - XF4F-2. The first series did not have wing folding units, as this unit, according to representatives of the US Navy, reduced the reliability of the design and increased its weight, and the place in the aircraft carrier hangars was quite a lot. Because of the irregular and very meager funding for the construction of aircraft, the first squadrons received "Wildcat" only by mid-January 1941
