Fighter F-5 the first type of aircraft produced in China, is a copy of the Soviet MiG-17. Production started in 1956 by "China Shengyang Aircraft Company" . Intended for air battles in day time. The maximum speed of 1145 km/h, or Mach 0.99, the practical ceiling of 16,000 meters, weapons are the same as for the MiG-15. In February 1958, Hu Chuncheng, a Chinese air force pilot, shot down an RB-57D scout on an F-5 fighter at an altitude of 15,000 meters, the first in the world aviation to shoot down the enemy in the stratosphere.
