P-47, because of its characteristic shape nicknamed "pitcher" was one of the heaviest fighters of the Second World War (weight from 7 to 10 tons). Designed as an interceptor, achieved considerable success as an assault aircraft. Its high structural strength and reliable powerful engine allowed to withstand the return fire of air defense forces. In March 1942, the first aircraft began to descend from the production lines. The most mass was modification "D", which had a more powerful engine and increased bomb load. With dropable fuel tanks, the P-47 could escort bombers to Berlin. P-47 was produced in several factories, each series had some characteristic features of the manufacturer.
