Additional Information
In 1917, the Renault company produced 84 tanks, which was regarded as a backlog from the schedule. One of the most significant drawbacks of the design was the tower. The cast tower used in the first training tanks was too small, the second cast tower was outdated by the time of release, as the tank was decided to arm with a 37mm gun. In addition, there were restrictions on the number of manufactured cast towers. As a result, Berliet has developed a simplified polygonal tower of steel sheets, which could be installed 37 mm gun Puteaux or 8 mm machine gun Hotchkiss. Soon, the company Aciéries Paul Girod, began to produce the second type of tower of cast and forged parts. Girod tower began to be produced in 1918, Renault tanks manufactured in 1918 used both types of towers.
