Additional Information
Leichter Panzerspähwagen (conventionally translated as "lightly armored reconnaissance vehicle") was a series of light four-wheeled armored vehicles produced by Germany from 1935 to 1944. The vehicle was developed on the basis of the standard heavy SUV Horch 108 with the addition of armor and a turret with weapons. As the engine originally used a Horch 3.5 Litre V8 with a power of 74 HP. subsequently replaced by a 3.8 Litre with 90 PS power 89 HP latest engine allows you to reach speeds on the highway 80 km/h and 40 km/h off road. The maximum range was 300 km. Car was used by the reconnaissance battalions and has established itself well enough. But on the Eastern front and the North African theater, this class of equipment suffered from not enough high cross-country, on these fronts, the machines were replaced by half-track Sdkwz 250, one of the options, Sdkfz 250/9, was equipped with the same tower as the Sd. Kfz 222. Development of the Soviet BA-64 was made after studying one of the captured Sd. Kfz 222.
SD Version. Kfz. 222 armed with 2 cm automatic gun KwK 30 L/55 and 7.92 mm MG 13 machine gun. The new weapons entailed a fascination with the number of crew, it reached three people. In 1938, the MG 13 was replaced by the Maschinengewehr 34, with the 1942 KwK 30 being replaced by a more rapid-fire KwK 38 of the same caliber. Production took place from 1937 to the end of 1943, a total of at least 990 cars were produced. The full name is Leichter Panzerspähwagen (2 cm).
