Merkava is the main battle tank used by the Israel defense forces. The tank began to be developed in 1973 and entered service in 1978. Four major versions were used. The first combat use dates back to the Lebanese war of 1982. The design of the tank includes such qualities as quick repair, high survival, high off-road quality and economic efficiency.A distinctive feature of the tank is the location of the tower in the rear of the hull, which is characteristic of self-propelled howitzers, this design provides additional protection to the crew from front-line attacks. At the rear of the tank is a hatch for crew access, this feature allows you to use the tank to move the infantry and evacuate the wounded.
