KrAZ-260 production began some time in the early 1980s, when it replaced the earlier KrAZ-255B on the production lines of the Kremenchug automobile plant. However, the vehicle was not disclosed to the General public until 1985, when examples were shown showing the towing of 152-mm2a36 field guns with nuclear capability at the red square parade - KrAZ-260 could tow loads of up to 10,000 kg at full load (30,000 kg with empty ). TheRed Squareexample had an open body equipped with front bench stands, although it was a front configuration. The normal body uses a normal cargo body with a rear door covered with a normal tilt over the bows. Winch is a standard reinforcement under the load case and can be used for forward or backward recovery including self-recovery.
