Armored double attack Il-2, the legendary "flying fortress", had no analogues in any of the warring countries and was a complete surprise to the enemy. A variety of armament (two machine guns of caliber 7, 62 mm, two guns of calibre of 20 or 23 mm, eight rocket projectiles caliber 82 or 132 mm and 400-600 kg bombs) ensured defeat a variety of purposes: from infantry to tanks and trains. A major role in increasing the firepower of the attack aircraft when attacking ground targets played a new rockets M-8 and M-13 class "air-ground", taken into service in 1942.
