In 1941, Mercedes-Benz developed the all-wheel drive truck L 1500 A. in Parallel with the all-wheel drive chassis L 1500A, a rear-wheel drive model with the index L 1500S was developed. According to the classification of Mercedes-Benz L 1500A was a model of the same type Horch Typ 108 and Steyr 1500A. The main body type for it was Kfz.70, designed to carry seven people, including the driver.

The most massive steel machines on all-wheel drive chassis L 1500A, until July 1943 produced 4900 cars of this type. Rear-wheel drive L 1500S lasted longer – until July 1944 produced 4100 cars of this type.
