Additional Information

the Nazis called this captured light tank "ineradicable locust" and fun to use in conducting their own operations, and the unprecedented audacity of the attack T-60 on the frozen Neva gave rise to the breakthrough of the blockade of Leningrad.

In may 1941, the Moscow plant number 37 was given the task – to establish serial production of T-50. Unfortunately, the plant had modest production capabilities, and could not cope with the production of such a complex tank as the T-50. Then the workers of the plant decided to create a new light tank, using the chassis and motor-transmission unit of the T-40 tank.
Permission to manufacture such a tank has been obtained. It should be said that the release permit belonged to the t-60 (030) tank, which was externally identical to the T-40 and bore the unofficial name of the T-30. T-60 – this is the second prototype, in which the machine gun DShK was replaced by a rapid-fire gun ShVAK.
the First serial T-60 was produced at the Moscow plant №37 on September 15, 1941. Because of the evacuation of the plant, the production of tanks was stopped on 26 October, and the tank began to be produced at other plants. When in 1942 there was a more perfect T-70, the production of T-60 still continued. Just with 1941 was issued 5920 machines.
