SU-85 — the average weight Soviet self-propelled artillery < /span> (ACS) belonging to the class tank destroyers. SU-85 is actively and successfully used from September 1943 until the end of the great Patriotic war. Machines of this brand were produced at the Ural Plant of Heavy Engineering (UZTM, Uralmash) from August 1943-it to July 1944. A total of 2,329 self-propelled guns were manufactured. After the development of a more powerful self-propelled SU-100 because of the delay in the release of 100-mm armor-piercing shells and the cessation of production of armored bodies for the SU-85 until December 1944 produced a transitional version of the SU-85M. Essentially, he represented a SU-100 with 85-mm cannon D-5S. From SU-85 "modernized" SU-85M differed more powerful frontal armor, as well as increased ammunition. A total of 315 such machines were built.
