self-Propelled howitzer, designed on the basis of the medium tank M3, and later — M4. This machine was designed to provide mobile fire support to tank divisions. Serial production began in April 1942 . In the period from April 1942 to February 1945 produced 4316 self-propelled artillery of this type in two main versions: the basic version — M7. ACS M7 kept the layout diagram of the basic tank M3. In the aft part there was a motor compartment, in the middle part in the open top of the fixed cabin — fighting compartment, in the frontal part — the control and transmission compartment. The crew of the artillery consisted of 7 members: commander, driver, gunner and four numbers calculation. In addition, the M7 unit included a supply vehicle driver and two ammunition trays.
