Additional Information
To counter the increasing threat from Soviet tanks in the later periods of world war II, Germany, in February 1943, began the development of a new heavy tank. Officially, the car has the designation Panzerkampfwagen VI-B Tiger II, but is better known as the "Royal Tiger". The tank had a thick armor with good angles of inclination and a powerful weapon. Henschel and Porsche, who already had experience in the production of heavy tanks, made prototypes with different configurations of towers. After testing, the Henschel design was approved for production. The Royal Tiger was equipped with the Type 43 L71, 8.8 cm gun, the high speed of the projectile allowed to penetrate 170mm armor at a distance of 1000 meters. In addition, the hull and turret housed two 7.92 mm machine gun. The frontal booking of the tower was equal to 185mm, the side plates reached 88mm. The massive tank was driven by a 12 cylinder Maybach HL230 P30 engine with a capacity of 700 HP. the Royal Tiger began mass production at the Henschel factories in early August 1944, with the delivery of the last Tiger I. Although the tank's design contained advanced technology, only 430 machines with the Henschel tower came off the Assembly line, only less than 500 tanks were available for combat use.
