With the conquest of France in 1940, the German army captured a lot of French equipment and used it for their needs. One example was the Char B1, tanks, many of which were left to the Germans in disrepair, were re-equipped by German standards, or converted into flamethrower tanks or other modifications. After Landing in Normandy, some Char B1 bis were captured and transferred back to Free France.
