Additional Information

Came to the end of 1942, when a heavy German tank with heavy armor and a powerful weapon first appeared on the African front. The new tank, long desired by German soldiers who fought hard with the allies, became known as the Tiger I Ausf. E. Development of Tiger I began in late may 1941. The command ordered to hold a competition between the companies Henschel and Porsche, each of which produced its prototype. The first prototypes were tested in April 1942. The results revealed the superiority of the sample from Henschel, followed by an order for the production of tanks by this company. The prototype Henschel had a frontal armor of 100 mm, side 80, a powerful 8.8 mm KWK 36 L/56 gun was installed in the tower. As the engine used Maybach'hl 210 P45 capacity of 650 HP. Mass production began in August 1942, with slight differences from the prototype. From November 1942 to July 1943, about 200 early-model Tigers were built.
