Installation of the SU-76 was established on the basis of a light tank T-70 as a mobile means of support of infantry. In front of the unit on the left was the driver, and on the right - the motor-transmission group. Fighting compartment (the cabin) installed therein 76.2-mm gun ZIS-3 was located in the rear. Initially, it was completely covered with armor, but during the modernization associated with the transition to the use of the t-70M TANK chassis, the armor roof was abandoned. Despite some weakness in fighting properties of SU-76M (bulletproof booking petrol engines), machines of this type, complementing other types of tanks with ACS were widely used in combat. Having different types of ammunition in the ammunition, the SU-76M could hit manpower, artillery and armored targets of the enemy. Suffice it to say that the sub-caliber projectile of the installation from a distance of 500 meters pierced armor with a thickness of 100 mm.
