In the late 70-ies of the experts of France and Germany have begun joint development of a new tank (the program "Napoleon 1" and GRC-3, respectively), but in 1982 it was discontinued. In France, however, work on the creation of its own promising third-generation tank was continued. And before the appearance of the prototype, such subsystems as the combat unit and the suspension were manufactured and tested. The main developer of the tank, which received the name "Leclerc" (by the name of a French General during the Second world war), is a state Association. Serial production of tanks "Leclerc" carries out the state Arsenal, located in the city of roan.
