the self-Propelled unit was developed in record time: in October 1942, the State defense Committee decided to begin work on the creation of a t-34 self-propelled unit with a 122-mm howitzer M-30 of the 1938 model, and since December it has already been adopted by the red Army and for production. SU-122 was intended to support and escort tanks. It entered service with self-propelled artillery regiments of medium SU (16 units each).
