Additional Information

In 1936, the commander of the British 2nd infantry division, General Archibald Wavell and engineer Giffard Le Quesn Martel arrived in the USSR in Moscow for ideas on creating a new light (cavalry) tank. On the ground in Kubinka the British were represented by light Soviet tanks BT-5, which is deeply sunk their hearts and sounded ideal from the point of view of British development ideology cruiser (cavalry) tanks. In the development and production of the first modification of the tank "Crusader" (Crusader Mk. I) participated firm "Nuffield" (Nuffield), which produced in the beginning of 1940 the first prototype. The tank was mass-produced until may 1942. In total, there are four modifications of the Crusader tank, which alternately replaced each other. Last, the fourth modification of the tank "Crusader" was the most successful series, and participated in several battles of the Second world war until 1942 inclusive, when it was replaced by the newer types of tanks that are running in production or shipped from the United States ( for example, M3 "Lee") for the British army.
