In 1943, the heaviest and most powerful tank of its time, the Jagdtiger, was built. Developed by Henschel, the tank destroyer had the chassis of the "Royal Tiger" and a long-barreled 12.8 cm gun capable of destroying allied tanks at a great distance. The combat unit was given 250mm thick armor. Jagdtiger was first met in December 1944 during the Ardennes offensive and from January to April 1945 fought with the allied army in Western Germany.
