KV-1, with a powerful 76.2 mm gun and 75mm frontal armor was an unpleasant surprise for the invading German troops in the summer of 1941. Impenetrable by almost no type of anti-tank guns, the KV-1 was more than a worthy opponent, but with the release of Germany's new KV-1 tanks began to lose superiority. As a response, attempts were made to strengthen the reservation of the tank, additional armor plates were installed on the hull and tower.
