In 1943, the German high command requested the development of a new light tank fighter to replace the StuG III and Marder. The prototypes of the Hetzer, which had many common components with the Panzerkampfwagen 38(t), were ready by 1944, mass production began in April of the same year, by may 1945 2584 machines were manufactured. The crew was four people, the characteristic features of the machines were 75mm gun Pak 39 L/48 and inclined armor, completely covering a small body. Hetzer was constantly modified during production, which is why there are many differences between the early and late versions of the machine. The Hetzer became the main tank destroyer in the late period of the war, and made an important contribution to the situation on both the Western and Eastern front.
