Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. N-German medium tank of the last production series in the Pz. Kpfw. III family. Structurally, it did not differ from the last two serial modifications of the Pz.Kpfw. III, except for the maximum reinforced armor protection, by installing additional armor screens from the sides of the tank, on the frontal armor plate and around the circumference of the tower, as well as replacing the 50-mm gun with a short-barreled 75-mm gun similar to the guns of early PzKpfw IV tanks. From June 1942 to August 1943, 663 tanks of this series were built and another 37 vehicles were converted from tanks of other modifications. Despite the measures taken to strengthen the armor and increase the firepower, Pz. Kpfw. III Ausf. N still could not resist the Soviet medium and heavy tanks and was used as a support tank, covering attacking infantry and suppressing the fire of artillery calculations and machine-gun nests. Despite the significant number of vehicles produced, the tank did not have a special impact on the course of hostilities and was used as a fairly ordinary support vehicle.
