the First flight of the Il-18D cyclone took place on April 4, 1980. Together with other aircraft of the Cyclone series, this machine was used in various scientific programs to study atmospheric phenomena over the territory of both the Soviet Union and a number of foreign States. In the autumn of 1986 Il-18D "Cyclone" participated in a joint Soviet-Cuban experiment to study the nature of tropical cyclones.
