Grumman's A-6 Intruder was designed to replace the A-1 Skyraider. This is the first all-weather assault aircraft of the US Navy. The aircraft were called the A2F before 1962, title A-6 Intruder was obtained during operation. Outstanding performance in any weather soon made the A-6 the main strike force of the Navy, and the us marine corps, the aircraft was involved in the Vietnam war. The A6-E was the latest and most advanced modification of the Intruder family. The new AN/APQ-148 radar system replaced the outdated one, the DIANE system was replaced by another computer system. In the late 70s, a new system called CAINS was installed. A characteristic feature of A-6E with this system is an additional air intake near the vertical stabilizer. Since 1979, all A-6E equipped with a TRAM system, located in a small turret under the fairing. A-6E TRAM took part in most of the military conflicts of the late twentieth century with the participation of the US Navy. All Intruder were replaced by Supet Hornet in 1997.
