the First flight of the PE-8 prototype took place in December 1936. The giant aircraft had 39 m wings and a length of 23 m, while the PE-8 developed a speed of up to 405 km/h. Carrying 2,000 kg of bomb load on Board, the bomber was able to repel the attacks of enemy fighters with guns and machine guns. On the night of August 8, 1941, the PE-8 Squadron made its first bombing RAID on Berlin. In the battle of Kursk they dropped 5-ton bombs on the German strike group. PE-8s were used in the bombing of the fortifications of Koenigsberg. PE-8 was the most perfect Soviet long-range bomber. A total of 93 copies of PE-8 were produced.
