In June 1940, man manufactured a prototype of a specialized light reconnaissance tank Pz II Ausf J (VK 1601). It differed from its predecessors mainly enhanced armor and improved suspension. A total of 22 tanks were produced from April to December 1942. Seven Pz II Ausf J were used in 1943-1944 on the Eastern front.
