By the early 30's the German army had cars of various brands. It got to the point that the military units "adopted" the cars of those plants in the area where they were quartered. All complicated by the fact that the chassis of civilian cars were poorly adapted for military service. The variety of equipment led to difficulties with the supply and repair, so it was decided to further standardize the "wheels" of the German army, and move to the chassis, specially designed for military needs.

- medium (mitleter Pkw) with engine capacity from 1.5 to 3L;

- heavy (schwerer PKW) with an engine capacity of more than 3L.
