due To its reliability and relatively low price, the armoured personnel carrier M113 became the basis for many anti-tank systems and air defense weapons. M163 was created around the 20mm volcano cannon. Rotating multi-barrel gun with a rate of 6000 rounds per minute were designed for air defense needs. The system is installed in a simple open tower, the ammunition was located inside the machine. Huge firepower allowed to use M163 not only as air defense but also for infantry fire support.
