This redesigned amphibious support vehicle LVT-(A) 1 was developed for the U.S. marine corps. In the course of many military actions in the Pacific, the Marines realized the need for a more heavily armed machine than its predecessor with a 37mm gun. This improvement was necessary to combat the fortifications and tanks of Japan, which met with the course of the war more often. The machine, equipped with a 75mm howitzer, was widely used in the capture of Ivo Dzima and Okinawa.
