Additional Information

KV-2-heavy tank of the initial period of the great Patriotic war. Abbreviation KV means "Klim Voroshilov"-the official name of the serial Soviet heavy tanks of 1940-1943 in honor of the hero of the Civil war. KV-2 differed from its predecessor KV-1 only weapons and tower. This combat vehicle was developed by the design Bureau of the Leningrad Kirov Plant (LKZ) in January 1940 in connection with the urgent need of the Workers 'And Peasants' red Army (RKKA) in a well-protected tank with powerful weapons to combat the fortifications of the Mannerheim line during the Soviet-Finnish war. A month later, the KV-2 was officially adopted by the red army and mass-produced at the LKZ until October 1941 inclusive. The reason for the withdrawal from production were several factors: the material consumption and low reliability of the tank, the temporary absence of the need for the red army in such machines, the evacuation of the LKZ and the General cessation of the production of tanks in Leningrad after the closure of the blockade ring. In total, the LKZ built 334 kV-2 tanks, which were actively used in the fighting of 1941 and at the same time almost all were lost. Tanks KV-2 armed with 152mm howitzer M-10, installed in a high tower, essentially were the heavy artillery, as it was designed to deal with the Pillboxes. The fire, they could only lead to the place. To date, only one KV-2 has been preserved, exhibited in the Central Museum of the Armed Forces in Moscow.
