Volkswagen Kübelwagen was a light military vehicle designed by Ferdinand Porsche. Based on the famous Volkswagen Beetle. Kübelwagen for the German army was the same as Jeep for the United States
The high command of Germany discussed with Ferdinand Porsche the possibility of using the products of Volkswagen for military purposes in April 1934, however, only in January 1938, the army ordered from Porsche inexpensive, lightweight car capable of overcoming off-road and operated in adverse weather conditions. It was assumed that the "Beetle" would be a suitable chassis for such a car. 
the Car was operated by the German army on all fronts in the most extreme conditions. The vehicles were used to transport soldiers, evacuate the wounded, transport ammunition and other purposes. More than 30 modifications were made on the chassis of the machine. 
Until the summer of 1945, 50,435 cars were produced, making it the most massive passenger car of the Wehrmacht.
