the development of the jagdtiger began in February 1943, on 20 October the same year a wooden model was presented to the high command of Germany. The role of the jagdtiger was to support infantry and combat vehicles at long range. Two prototypes, one with Porsche clutch, the other with Henschel clutch were completed by February 1944. Initially, the new machine was named Jagdpanzer VI, but later the name was changed to Jagdtiger and Sd number.Kfz.186. Mass production planned for December 1943, was actually started only in July 1944, the release was very slow since the manufacture of Pz.Kpfw V Panther was considered a higher priority.
