Additional Information
the Command postponed the modification or development of a new tank on the basis of M4A1, so it was believed that the "Tigers" and "Panthers" will be used only on the Eastern front, and in the West their number will be minimized. But it was not so. The new tank, based on the M4A1, was equipped with a T23 turret and a long-barreled 76-mm M1A1, M1A2 gun later. The tower was improved by a movable fan, and a 100 mm frontal armor. In early August 1944, the loader was given a separate round folding hatch. In March 1945, the M4A2 (76)W experienced significant changes: two rollers in each trolley turned into four (two in a pair), the springs were placed vertically, and hydraulic shock absorbers were installed. In the period from may 1944 to the end of the war, 2,915 cars were produced, a significant number of 2,070 were sent to the USSR by lend-lease. The tank participated in the liberation of Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Austria, also seeing combat in the battle of Berlin.
